Abstract
4-Methyl-3:5-bis(21- hydroxyethylsulphonyl methyl)aniline, made by the reduction of the corresponding nitro compound, is sulphated to give the corresponding 21-sulphatoethylderivative.ALSO:The invention comprises dyestuff mixtures of the formula <FORM:0931596/IV(a)/1> where A is H or SO3M, Pcy is a phthalocyanine molecule, X is a bridging link containing only 1, 2 or 3 carbon, sulphur, oxygen or nitrogen atoms, or a combination thereof, in the chain, Y and Z are each hydrogen, methyl, ethyl, methoxy, ethoxy or -CH2SO2CH2CH2OA, M is hydrogen or an alkali-metal, alkaline earth metal, ammonium or amine cation, n1 has an average value of 0-3, n2 has an average value of 1-4 and n1 + n2 is not greater than 4. Bridging links represented by X may be -SO2NR- where R is hydrogen or an alkyl group of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, -O-, -NR-, -NRSO2-, -SO2NHNH-, -CH2-, -C2H4-, -CH2SO2-, -CH2NR-, -CH2S-, -CH2O-, -CO-, -S-, -CONH-, -NHCO- and SCH2-. The dyes where X is -SO2NH- are made by reacting a metal or metal-free phthalocyanine containing sulphochloride groups with a b -sulphatoethylsulphonylmethyl aniline or with a b -hydroxyethyl sulphonylmethylaniline, those where X is -CH2NH- are made by reacting a chloromethyl-phthalocyanine with a b -hydroxy-ethyl sulphonylmethyl-aniline, those where X is -SO2NHNH- are made by reacting a phthalocyanine sulphochloride with 4-methyl-3:5-bis (21-hydroxyethyl sulphonylmethyl)-phenyl hydrazine, and those where X is -NH- are made by reacting a bromo-phthalocyanine with 4-methyl-3:5-bis(21-hydroxyethyl sulphonylmethyl)-aniline. The dyes where A is hydrogen may be converted to those where A is -SO3M by sulphation with sulphuric acid, if desired with simultaneous sulphonation. Examples of dyes where X is -SO2NH- are given. The dyes dye and print natural and synthetic cellulose and polyamide fibres in green to blue shades. Specification 733,471 is referred to.
