Abstract
939,992. Ventilators. M. LANDAU. July 24, 1962 [Aug. 4, 1961; June 14, 1962], No. 28469/62. Class 137. A ventilator for a building comprises a substantially horizontal or slightly inclined shaft 101 of square section extending through a wall 102 of the building and having an external cover 106 which extends outwardly and downwardly from the upper edge 105a of a metal liner 105 which lines the shaft. Two vertical plates 107, 107a extend longitudinally of the shaft in the centre thereof being retained in grooves 103 in the upper and lower surfaces of the liner. The outer ends of the plates curve in opposite directions to join the cover at its outer edges. A plate 105b extends from the lower edge of the liner to the lower edge of the cover the arrangement of parts being such as to define openings 108, 108<SP>1</SP> on either side of the ventilator so that wind blowing parallel to the wall enters one or other of these openings and passes up the shaft into the interior of the building. Gauze filter screens 110 may be inserted to cover the openings 108, 108<SP>1</SP> and two superposed shutters 111, 111a each having a cut-out 1111 corresponding to the height of the shaft, are disposed over the inner end of the shaft the relative positions of the shutters being adjusted to control the flow of air. A further vertical shutter 117 may be used to close the ventilator shaft automatically e.g. when a door in the building is opened. A towel 115 in the form of an endless belt mounted on rollers 114, 114a and arranged so that its lower end is immersed in a trough of water 112<SP>1</SP> may be arranged close to the internal opening of the shaft and serves to humidify the incoming air. In a modification (Figs. 1-3, not shown) a single vertical plate divides the shaft and abuts the cover at right angles.
