Abstract

Wood, textile material, or paper is proofed against fungi and insects by treatment with a composition comprising alkylated meta-cresols and/or alkylated para-cresols. The composition may comprise one or more of mono-t-butyl-, di-t-butyl-, and iso-octylmeta and para-cresols. The composition may comprise 10-40% of monoalkylated cresol and 2-80% of di-alkylated cresol. A saturated or unsaturated aromatic or aliphatic hydrocarbon, alcohol, or ester may be present as solvent. Examples are given.
