Abstract
938,022. Ionization chambers. COMPAGNIE FRANCAISE THOMSON-HOUSTON. July 6, 1961 [July 8, 1960], No. 24501/61. Class 39 (1). An ion-getter pump, the ionization space of which is subjected to a magnetic field, comprises a hollow cylinder 12 of non-ferromagnetic material connected at either end to ferromagnetic plates 13, 14 and surrounded by a magnet 23 in the form of a hollow cylinder which is magnetized in the axial direction and magnetically connected to the two ferromagnetic plates, and a second magnet 25 located outside the chamber coaxially therewith and axially spaced from the first magnet, said second magnet acting as a compensation magnet which is magnetized in the opposite direction to the first mentioned magnet and magnetically connected by one of its pole faces to one of the two ferromagnetic plates of the chamber and by its other face to a third ferromagnetic plate 28. The plates 13, 14 preferably have projections 17, 18 extending into the chamber which carry coatings 19, 20 of ion absorbing material such as carbon or titanium, the plates acting as cathodes and co-operating with a hollow anode 21. A further pump structure may be located between the projections 29, 30, and a screening box 26 is provided outside the whole structure. Specification 753,264 is referred to.
