937,627. Suspended ceilings; ventilating. ELOF HANSSON Inc. July 28, 1961 [Dec. 19, 1960], No. 27384/61. Classes 20 (4) and 137. A ventilated ceiling comprises panels P, Fig. 2, supported between spaced parallel bars, Fig. 1 (not shown), which bars in turn are secured to furring channels directly suspended from a main ceiling, those edges of the panels extending in a direction normal to the said bars being formed throughout their length with kerfs 20 in which are located fins 23, 24 extending outwardly along the sides of splines V, each spline comprising a hollow body member 21 having spaced apertures 26 therethrough for passage of air between the room and the space above the ceiling. A slide 28 having apertures 35 spaced similarly to the apertures 26 is mounted in the body 21 of each spline so as to be capable of longitudinal adjustment relative to the apertures 26 whereby the area of the air passage through the spline may be selectively controlled. The splines may be formed of thermoplastic material and may be translucent so that the room may be illuminated by light transmitted through the splines from lamps placed above the ceiling. In a modification, the spline is formed of sheet metal and comprises either a single body portion 40, Fig. 4, extending in one direction from the flanges 41 or a pair of body portions 40, 51 (as shown) extending to different extents on opposite sides of the flanges, so that the spline may be disposed as shown in Fig. 4 when used with a panel having square edges and may be used in the inverted position, with the body portion 40 lowermost, when used with chamfered edged panels. The adjusting slide 46 is mounted upon whichever body portion 40 or 51 is uppermost.
