Abstract
937,298. Automatic feed weighers. ELLIOT BROTHERS (LONDON) Ltd. Jan. 21, 1960 [Jan. 21, 1959], No. 2208/59. Class 143. The ingredients of a mixture are weighed into separate containers, the feed to each of which is independently out off on the attainment of a predetermined batch weight of the corresponding ingredient, all the ingredient feeds not previously cut off being simultaneously cut off when the contents of all the containers together attains a predetermined total batch weight. The individual containers are then emptied into a common receptacle. The apparatus incorporates a master weigher comprising a weigh beam 1 which carries a depending post 4 supporting a platform 5 which in turn carries the ingredient weigh beams 6. These are eighteen in number and are equally spaced around the circular periphery of the platform 5. Each beam 6 carries a hopper 11 fed from a bin 14 by a vibratory feeder 13 and closed by a door 12. In use, up to seventeen of the hoppers 11 are fed until their beams 6 tilt and in so doing break switches which stop their associated feeders. When the master beam 1 tilts it opens a switch stopping all the feeders and also actuates a solenoid 15 to release, by levers 16, all the hopper doors 12 so that the batch enters a waiting container 18. If the main beam remains untilted when all the feeds have been cut off, a make-weight ingredient is fed to the spare eighteenth weigher until beam 1 tilts. The discharge controlling solenoid is prevented from operating if no container 18 is present.
