Abstract

937,117. Spring suspensions for cycles. MOULTON CONSULTANTS Ltd. Jan. 30, 1962 [Jan. 31, 1961], No. 3683/61. Class 136(3). A resilent suspension for the front wheel of a cycle comprises a tubular steering column 11 rotatable in the frame 12 into which a tubular member 5 extends upwards from the crown 4 of the front forks 3 and houses a compression spring 15, 18 which resists upward telescopic movement of the tube 5 in the steering column 11. The column 11 is held against axial movement in bearings 8 and 9 and is clamped to the handlebars at 21. The spring comprises a rubber block 15 inside a. coil spring 18 and bears against a stool 17 welded to the column 11. Hydraulic or other damping means may be provided. Rotation of the tube 5 in the column 11 is prevented by a toggle joint 26 or by splines (Fig. 1 of the Complete Specification, not shown). Telescopic bellows 27 exclude dust from the sliding parts.
