Abstract

936,810. Automatic exchange systems. TELEFONAKTIEBOLAGET L. M. ERICSSON. Nov. 21, 1960 [Nov. 19, 1959], No. 40024/60. Class 40 (4). In an inter-exchange system employing VF signalling in which each digit is represented by one or more frequencies, each digit is sent until it is terminated by a return signal from the receiving exchange, whereupon the return signal is cut off in turn and the next digit is sent. Digit sending may be initiated by a " ready " signal from the receiving exchange. Receiving equipment including registers is shown for signals comprising a 2 out of 6 code with relays R1 . . . R6 corresponding to the six frequencies. If more than two frequencies are received R12 operates, while if only one frequency is received R 13 operates, an alarm circuit AL being closed in either case. Assuming a correct signal is received, the corresponding relays in register RE1 operate as well as R8, and these relays connect up R11 to send a return signal. R11 holds over its lower winding during the operating time of R10, which fixes a minimum duration for the return signal, and over its upper winding in series with the operated pair of relays R1 . . . R6 until the received signal is ended. R11 and R10 then fall back and R9 comes up, the digit represented by the next signal being stored in register RE2. In an alternative arrangement, a signal is normally transmitted from the receiving exchange, and its interruption constitutes the acknowledgment of a correct digital signal.
