To enable the effective length of a plectrum for a harpsichord, a spinet or a virginal to be adjusted, a tongue 14 turns about a pivot 17 in the jack 11 and carries an adjustable stop screw 19. The screw engages a leather pad 22 on the jack. The plectrum fits in an aperture 15 in the tongue. A spring 18 biases the tongue so that the screw 19 engages the pad 22. Rotation of the tongue in the other direction is limited by a stop 23. A lead balancing weight 13 is moulded into the plastics material of the jack.
