Abstract
936,537. Fusible cut-outs. SUBMARINE CABLES Ltd. May 29, 1962 [June 2, 1961], No. 20076/61. Class 38 (1). [Also in Group XXXVII] A short-circuiting fuse for a submarine repeater has three electrodes coated with solder and a heating resistor so that when the current through the resistor rises above a predetermined value the solder melts and joins the electrodes irrespective of the attitude of the fuse, so that on cooling permanent connections are made. The central electrode 1 is fixed to a rod 4 and has a circumferential flange 12 which divides the fuse into two parts. The two end electrodes 2, 3 are insulated from the rod 4 by insulating sleeves 5 and end-plates 8. The faces of the electrodes are coated with solder 11 leaving gaps between the electrodes. The whole is surrounded by a tubular heating resistor 6.
