936,476. Fluid-pressure servomotor control systems. BRISTOL SIDDELEY ENGINES Ltd. Jan. 23, 1961 [Jan. 26, 1960], No. 2810/60. Class 135. [Also in Group XXXIII] Lift and propulsive forces on an aeroplane are provided by a gas turbine engine supplying air to two nozzles 23a, 23b, tiltable on shafts 30a, 30b, and supplying turbine exhaust gases to nozzles 28a, 28b, similarly mounted. Shafts 30a, 30b are geared to a crossshaft 33, extending below the compressor shaft and connected by pinion 34 and worm 35 to an articulated shaft 36 running rearwardly to the shafts 38a, 38b of nozzles 28a, 28b so that all four nozzles tilt in unison. The shaft 36 is driven by two air motors 40a, 40b connected through means such as differential gearing to a part 41 of shaft 36, so that either motor may drive shaft 36 independently of the other. Air tapped from compressor 17 is fed by pipe 44 to motors 40a, 40b, through a reversible valve 42 having an operating lever 43 connected to a pilot's control. The valve includes a follow-up member (not shown) operated by shaft 41 so that movement of lever 43 from a datum position results in a proportional number of revolutions of shaft 41 from a datum position, and in a proportional orientation of all four nozzles from datum positions.
