936,038. Humidifying systems. CALOMAX (ENGINEERS) Ltd. May 19, 1961 [May 27, 1960], No. 18748/60. Drawings to Specification. Class 55 (2). A method and apparatus for humidifying the air for supply to rooms, buildings, treatment compartments and the like, comprises a chamber with a fresh steam outlet separated by a plurality of baffles from a steam generator, the generator having a heat source whose heating effect can be varied rapidly and which is arranged to be surrounded by the minimum quantity of water to give quick steam generation, and a small capacity float controlled feed tank arranged to maintain the water level in the generator but to hold the minimum quantity necessary to keep the element covered at maximum rate of steam production, the heat source being independent of the water from which the humidifying steam is produced, all whereby the humidifying steam is freshly generated from fresh water and delivered straight into the air in the room &c. with the minimum risk of contamination. The heating element may be a steam or hot-water coil. The baffles may be of gauze or perforated plates. The apparatus will normally be constructed of non-ferrous metals, and surfaces in contact with water or steam may be tinned or made of stainless steel.
