Abstract

935,829. Plugs for electric sockets. H. S. DONY. Nov. 24, 1959 [Dec. 5, 1958], No. 39256/58. Class 38 (1). A safety device for electric sockets comprises a plug having its pins formed wholly or partly of insulating material arid arranged to be held in the socket against attempted removal by a child. The plug may be a one-piece moulding of hard vulcanized rubber, synthetic rubber, synthetic resin or polymeric material with periperally grooved pins 2, as shown, slightly larger in diameter than corresponding metal pins or with pins of slightly non-standard spacing, to ensure a tight fit in the socket, the plug body in the latter case being slightly resilient to allow deformation during insertion. Metal inserts may extend through the centre of the pins into the body to prevent breakage and lodgment of a pin in the socket. Alternatively, the plug may have metal pins with portions adjacent the body formed of or sleeved in insulating material to guard against hazard arising from insertion of a metal article between the plug and the socket. In a further embodiment one or more of the pin portions may be expanded in the socket by rotation of a knob on the body so as to prevent withdrawal.
