Abstract
Discrete individually sugar coated active particles are incorporated in an insoluble chewing gum base. Active materials, such as phosphates especially calcium phosphates, chlorophyllins, vitamins and antacids are mixed with sugar and wet down and dried, or preferably mixed with sugar solution and spray dried. These dried mixtures are then pulverized and incorporated in a chewing gum base. The base may be prepared by heating and blending ingredients such as natural gums, synthetic resins, waxes, fillers, e.g. calcium carbonate &c. This base is then blended with corn syrup and sugar together with the coated active particles, in a mixing kettle, while subjecting to mild heat; and the resulting dough-like mass is unloaded, cooled, rolled, scored, set and broken into individual slab pieces.
