934,268. Feeding sheets. A. WINDMOLLER, and M. GENNERICH, [trading as WINDMOLLER & HOLSCHER]. Feb. 24, 1961 [Feb. 24, 1960], No. 6946/61. Class 100 (1). In apparatus for feeding flat-folded bags to a bag-filling machine, each bag is fed in a circular path with the base of the bag leading, the bag is arrested and located in a plane inclined to the vertical, and is then fed in a lateral direction by means which is accelerated to a predetermined speed, and the bag is transferred to further means travelling at that speed and which feeds the bag to the filling machine. As shown, flat-folded bags 1 from a stack or a bag-making machine are advanced along a circular path by a narrow cylinder 3 provided with grippers 2 and deposited, base downwards, on a stop 5 which embraces the cylinder. The stop 5 is adjustably mounted on a holder 6 to suit different lengths of bags, and each bag rests on a plate 9 which is inclined to the vertical; air jets from a pipe 10 assist in locating of the bag on the plate 9. The plate 9 is secured to bars 15, 16 which are slidably mounted in the machine frame and are reciprocated in a direction parallel to the axis of the cylinder 3 by means of a linkage operated from a cam-plate 31 (not shown). The plate 9 is accelerated from rest to a maximum speed, at which it is taken by grippers 37, 38 travelling at the same speed and in the same direction, then decelerates to zero, speed, and thereafter returns to starting position. There are several sets of grippers 37, 38 carried on an endless chain 36 mounted on two sprocket wheels provided with means for closing and opening the grippers, respectively, and the bags are released at the bag-filling machine.
