Abstract

A method of operating a blast furnace comprises charging the furnace with alternate layers of coke having a grain size between 60 and 100 mm., and are intimately mixed with the usual additions and with coke of higher reactivity and smaller grain size, e.g. 6 to 60 mm., than that used in the coke layers.
