Abstract

922,306. Polyurethane foam. GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO. May 10, 1961 [Nov. 3, 1960], No. 16972/61. Class 2(5) [Also in Group V] A polyurethane foam contains intimately dispersed therein particles of a powdered polyurethane foam, the particles being characterized by substantial absence of visible cell structure. The foam may be formed by either the pre-polymer or one-shot processes from hydroxyl-containing polyesters, polyesteramides, polyether glycols and mixtures; suitable dicarboxylic acids, glycols, aminoalcohols and diamines for the preparation of the polyesters and polyesteramides are specified (the diamines may also be used as cross-linkers), whereas the polyether glycols may be prepared from alkylene oxides or glycols, including condensing alkylene glycols on to glycerine, as well as from heterocyclic ethers such as tetrahydrofuran and dioxolane. Numerous polyisocyanates are also specified. In the examples, the polyurethane foam is prepared from a propylene oxideglycerolcondensate, tolylene diisocyanate, ground polyurethane scrap, water, a water-soluble polyoxyalkylene polydimethyl siloxane block copolymer, tris-nonyl-phenyl phosphite, stannous octoate, N-ethyl morpholine and triethylene diamine. The product of example 5 is made into seat cushions.
