Abstract

<PICT:0920848/IV(a)/1> <PICT:0920848/IV(a)/2> In apparatus for producing a non-woven fibrous fabric 22 having holes therein (see Group IX) a stream of fluid-borne fibres 19 is directed on to a continuously rotating, perforated drum 1 on a stationary spindle 2 and the web 22 so-formed is consolidated by air from a nozzle 23 or by suction through the perforations 8 and also by a vapour or liquid, e.g. water, which may include a bonding agent, from a spray 38 and is dried by hot air from a nozzle 25. If the fibres are thermoplastic consolidation and bonding may be effected simultaneously by a hot fluid. The fibres may be cotton, wool, glass, asbestos, viscose rayon, cellulose acetate, nylon, polyesters, polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride or a mixture of these fibres. After the web 22 has been stripped from the drum 1 it passes to a further bonding stage. A viscose rayon web 22, Fig. 5, is impregnated with viscose while passing between rollers 31, passes over guide rollers 33 in a sulphuric acid bath 32 to regenerate cellulose, is squeezed by rolls 34 and passes through at least one further bath 35 to effect washing, purification, bleaching, dyeing or finishing. The web is dried on heated rolls 36 and wound into a roll 37.
