Abstract
920,077. Change speed and clutch control; reversing gearing. MORRIS MOTORS Ltd. Oct. 27, 1961 [Sept. 22, 1960], No. 32534/60. Class 80 (2). Reverse gear controlling means comprises two clutch controlling and gear-selecting linkages rotating a selector means in opposite directions to operate a synchromesh forward and reverse gear coupling mechanism. An internal combustion engine driven clutch 3 drives an input gear 4 which may be clutched by a synchromesh mechanism 12 to an output shaft 11 for ahead drive or may drive through two countershafts, having gears 6, 9 to a gear 10 similarly clutchable to the shaft 11 for astern drive. The mechanism 12 is actuated by a fork 13 and a lever 14 rotated in opposite directions by two hydraulic slave cylinders 27, acting through lost motion linkwork 24, 22 and levers 17, 18 rigid with a shaft 15 to which the lever 14 is attached. A cross-pin 34 in the main clutch release lever co-operates with slots 33 in the links 24 to provide clutch release during shift. A manual control lever 53 is mounted for lateral angular movement, limited by stops 59, 60, in a member 56 mounted for pivotal movement about pins 57, 57A, and has blocks 67, 68 engageable with pivoted levers 61, 66 operating hydraulic master cylinders 40, 41 connected to the slave cylinders 27. The lever 53 is normally held against the stop 60 by a spring 73, with the lower end of the lever through a gate 69. In this condition, the blocks 67, 68 are clear of the lenses 61, 66 and a spigot 70 engages a hole 71 in a pivoted plate 72 connected to the engine throttle by link 76, to provide engine control only.
