929,917. Shearing. MOELLER & NEUMANN G.m.b.H. Sept. 29, 1961 [Oct. 7, 1960], No. 35174/61. Addition to 922,563. Class 83 (4). The invention described in the parent Specification which comprises a shear having a stationary bottom cutter and a top cutter movable in an arcuate path during cutting and which is fastened to a rocking member supported on a spindle parallel to the cut, wherein the spindle is movable away from the cut edge of the plate before the return stroke of the top cutter, is modified in that several rocking members are assembled to form a drum-like top cutter carrier which is mounted for free rotation and in that a reciprocating cutter drive is adapted to exert leverage on the carrier relatively to the spindle at several points corresponding to the number of rocking members, or of top cutters. The cutter carrier comprises a drum 2 mounted on a spindle 3 and carries four cutters 1. Associated with each cutter is a semicircular socket 6 which receives the end of a plunger 7 which is driven by an eccentric 8 on a crank-shaft 9. The plunger 7 is attached to the drum by two removable pins, to effect the return stroke of the cutter. A cutter is used until it is worn, and a new cutter is then brought into position by disconnecting the plunger 7, rotating the drum 90 degrees and re-connecting the plunger. In order to move the top cutter away from the bottom cutter during the return stroke the bearings of the spindle 3 are mounted in blocks which slide in guides 24 and 25 and are controlled by a toggle linkage which comprises links 17 and 18 and a double-acting hydraulic cylinder 22.
