Abstract
929,858. Egg-cookers. B. G. WEBB, and E. WEBB. Feb. 1, 1962, No. 3960/62. Class 28 (1). [Also in Group XI] Eggs are cooked in their shells, without surrounding them with water, by an electric heating element which extends most of the way round the egg, a holder positioning the egg with respect to the element. A cooker for six eggs, Figs. 2 and 3, has a metal ease formed in two halves, with four heating elements 14 in each half, shaped to form six approximately cylindrical containers 7 in each of which an egg can be centrally held by lugs 9 and members 10, air holes 11 and asbestos insulation 12 being provided above and below. Each element 14 consists of a resistance wire sandwiched in zig-zag formation between thermosetting resin and glass cloth laminate backed by asbestos sheet 13. In a modification (Fig. 6, not shown) the egg rests in a cavity formed, upon closure together of the two halves of the casing, by a pair of opposed hemispheroidal depressions formed in two sheets of good thermal transfer material. Alternatively, the heating elements may themselves be of hemispheroidal shape (Fig. 5, not shown). Reference is also made to: modified constructions of the heating element; the form of flat resistance elements to form oblong egg containers; the provision of separate elements and switches for each egg; the use of infra-red heaters; the provision of a thermostat, timer, and alarm device; the automatic breaking of the energizing circuit upon opening the cooker; and the incorporation of the egg cooker in a general purpose electric cooker.
