Abstract
A vulcanizate is prepared by subjecting a composition comprising a rubbery butadiene polymer coprecipitated with lignin to vulcanization in the presence of an organic accelerator, an activator, sulphur in amount not greater than 2,5 parts per 100 rubber, and a modifier selected from the group consisting of the oxides of copper, lead and bismuth. Specified are polymers of butadiene, methyl-2-butadiene, 1,3-pentadiene, and 2,3-dimethyl butadiene as well as copolymers with styrene, vinyl naphthalene, alpha-methyl styrene, acrylonitrile and methacrylonitrile. The usual vulcanization additives may also be present, e.g. a petroleum hydrocarbon softener, an asphaltic hydrocarbon softener, stearic acid, carbon black, pine tar and waxy hydrocarbons.
