Abstract
929,211. Plating steel wire and coating with rubber. UNITED STATES STEEL CORPORATION. Sept. 19, 1961 [Sept. 26, 1960], No. 33580/61. Class 41. Steel wire is prepared for coating with rubber by (1) cleaning, (2) plating with a thin coat of Cu, bronze, or brass to a thickness 0.3 X 10<SP>-6</SP> to 2.5 x 10<SP>-6</SP> inches. Cleaning consists of carburising any die lubricant, then pickling in HCl or H 2 SO 4 at 160‹ F. and washing. The plated wire is then coated with rubber and vulcanized. The brass plating contains 60 to 80% Cu, and the bronze plating 80 to 90%. Alkali cyanide plating baths are preferred.
