A type bar 1 is provided with a type face for drawing large circles comprising a rigid bar 2 of conventional width and a second part 3 pivoted relative thereto. The part 3 has scribing points 6 and after it has been positioned in the printing position by depressing a key is is rotated by pressing a knob 12 which has a screw-threaded engagement with a rod 9 which by formations 8 engages slots 7 in the part 3. If it is desired to draw arcs only one point 6 is provided and a masking device 13 is used to position the point 6 where it is desired to start the arc.
