Abstract

927,102. Bearings. S. SMITH & SONS (ENGLAND) Ltd. March 23, 1962 [April 21, 1961], No. 14461/61. Class 12 (1). In a jewel bearing having a jewel 1 and a block 2 retained by a push-fit in a mounting 4, the jewel has a spherical recess 7 therein for engagement with a tapered end of a spindle 10 and the block 2 has a frustoconical hole 8 therein, the smallest diameter 9 of which is adjacent the recess 7 of the jewel 1. The width across the recess 7 is equal to or slightly greater than the diameter 9, the tapered end of the spindle has a smaller cone angle than the hole 8 in the block 2, the block 2 may be made of metal such as brass for example, and the mounting 4 may have external screw-threads 5 thereon.
