Abstract
926,667. Ironing-presses; finishing fabrics. A. CLAYMAN, and B. J. CLAYMAN. Jan. 19, 1961 [April 1; 1960], No. 11599/60. Classes 42 (1) and 138 (2). A cloth pressing machine particularly for pressing a turned-over edge comprises a clothsupporting bed, means for continuously feeding the cloth folded in layers, an electrically heated presser and a steam-generating means between which the cloth layers are passed by the feeding means for heating and moistening the cloth in order to retain the layers of cloth together. In the embodiment shown 2 indicates a platform for supporting the material to be pressed and is fitted with a pillar 3 having an arm 4 from which depends a head 5 having at its lower end a heating element 6 constituting the presser member. The latter can rock on the head 5 and the pillar 3 is hinged at 8 and is fitted with an arm 9 which is attached to treadle means (not shown) for raising the presser member against the action of spring 10. A steam generating chamber 11 is fitted to the platform 2 immediately beneath presser member 6 and the top of the chamber 11 is formed with small holes 14 through which steam passes to dampen the material to be pressed. The material is automatically and slowly carried along by an endless canvas belt 15 which is driven by a knurled or serrated roller 16 and passes through slots in the platform 2.
