Abstract

926,555. Reversible life rafts. VIKING MARINE CO. Ltd. Dec. 29, 1961 [Sept. 29, 1960], No. 33478/60. Class 113. A life raft includes a buoyancy ring 1, e.g. of resin reinforced with fibre glass, and a canopy. The canopy comprises upper and lower components, 3 and 3a respectively, of similar material to the ring and of identical shape and size, each of which can form either the canopy roof or floor, connected by a suitable material, e.g. waterproof canvas, and flexible members 6. The components 3 and 3a are stowed within the ring and prevented from passing through it by a flange 2. Guide members 14 retain the components in the stowed position by a belt having projections which engage castellations 17, on the periphery of each component. The belts are individually movable to release the upper component, by a lever projecting through the ring, which component is raised by a spring linkage 8, 9 and 13 to form a canopy. Boarding ladders 24, entrance openings and seats 7 are provided. The canopy may be erected by gas inflated flexible tubular members automatically or manually.
