Abstract

926,306. Electromechanical filters. SIEMENS & HALSKE A.G. Feb. 23, 1961 [Feb. 26, 1960 (2)], No. 6660/61. Class 40 (8). An electromechanical filter comprises flexual resonators coupled by torsional elements. The resonators 5 are made of a steel alloy having a small coefficient of thermal expansion and are designed to operate in a bending mode with a central antinode and two symmetrical nodes at the points of attachment of coupling rods 6, 7. These operate in torsion and are non- resonant, i.e. the distance separating the resonators 5 is made smaller than a quarter of the wavelength in the resonators. The bent ends of the coupling rods are attached to a base. The input and output transducers consist of piezo-electric, rectangular, ceramic plates 8, 9 soldered at the mid-points to one or both sides of the first and last oscillators. The ceramic elements are electroded on their major faces and respond in an extensional mode which produces bending. The input and output may alternatively comprise bimorph transducers each having a pair of piezo-electric elements operating in mechanical antiphase. The coupling rods may be discontinuous, e.g. may comprise several short lengths screwed into or soldered to the long edges of the resonators.
