Abstract

926,007. Tubular filters; by-passing filters on dogging. O. E. ROSAEN, and N. O. ROSAEN. May 13, 1960, No. 17071/60. Class 46. On excessive build-up of differential pressure, filter element 120, Fig. 5, moves sufficiently to the left to permit oil entering at 111 to pass around end ring 127 and between spaced tongues 126 on a boss 125 to the element interior. The further, optionally coarser, element 131 through which such by-passed oil must pass in Fig. 5 in order to reach the outlet 112, is omitted from the Fig. 2 embodiment (not shown). The position of flange 128 on end ring 127 may be observed through a window 160, and the edge of the flange makes contact with the free end of a crank arm 152, Fig. 8, to rotate a pointer 153 over suitable indicia inscribed on the outside of the casing. The oil is withdrawn by a pump, not shown, so that the inlet pressure is below atmospheric, and in Fig. 3 (not shown), the plunger of a switch is normally urged by atmospheric pressure inwards to the inlet space, being stopped by a snap ring surrounding the plunger. The plunger is urged outwards by a tapered flange on the end ring equivalent to end ring 127, Fig. 5, on clogging, and the closing of the switch operates an alarm or initiates the shutting down of the pump. The position of the snap ring is also indicative of the condition of the element.
