Abstract
4-Vinyl pyridine and acrylic acid are copolymerized in aqueous solution with potassium persulphate as catalyst, and the product is sulphonated with concentrated sulphuric acid and cadmium chloride. A sulphonated copolymer of 4-vinyl pyridine and styrene is similarly prepared. Reference is made to copolymers of 4-vinyl pyridine mono- or disulphonic acid with acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, acrylates, methacrylates, methylchloroacrylates, acrylonitrile, methylacrylonitrile, acrylamide, styrene sulphonic acid, or divinyl benzene sulphonic acid, or with mixtures of acrylic acid and acrylates, acrylonitrile or styrene sulphonic acid.
