Abstract
911,864. Hand shears. WOSTENHOLM & SON Ltd., GEORGE. Jan. 4. 1961 [Jan. 6, 1960], No. 552/60. Class 30. Hand shears such as kitchen shears, garden shears or tinman's snips have individually bevelled serrations 4 of obtuse convex profile on the cutting edge of a blade 3, movement of the material to be cut 9 relatively to the blades during a shearing action providing a slicing action to assist shearing. The serrations merge into spacing concavities 10, which are formed simultaneously therewith on a form wheel, and are preferably of constant pitch between 0.06 and 0.3 inches, the lateral extent of the bevelling being varied to suit different purposes. In modifications, the serrations are provided on both blades, or only on that part of a blade near the pivot, or a double bevel 19, 20, as shown in Fig. 10, is provided on the cutting edges of the blades of garden shears and tinman's snips, one of the cutting edges being serrated and the other straight, the bevel 19 making possible sharpening by grinding on the face 21 without lessening the robustness of the serrated edge.
