Abstract

911,453. Milling. MALMEDIE & CO. G.m.b.H. March 22, 1960 [March 26, 1959], No. 10187/60. Class 83 (3). A device for chamfering the ends of bolts 4 comprises a turntable 3a between feed and discharge shoots 16, 17, the turntable being slotted to hold the bolts while they are carried past an eccentrically-mounted disc milling-cutter 19, and means 22 being provided to rotate the bolts while in contact with the cutter. The device is attached to the frame of a bolt press or a thread-cutting machine. The bolts are delivered along the shoot 16 and are held against rollers 20a in a second turntable 3 by a band 20 tensioned by springs 21. The turntables are carried on a sleeve 6 and a shaft 2 keyed together the sleeve 6 being rotated by a belt-drive 5 or by the drive to the press which may also rotate the cutter. The lower ends of the bolts are held in slots in the table 3a by the segments 22 urged radially inwards by springs 25. For a different length of bolt, the base 28 of the device carrying the drive means for the cutter is raised by rotation of a screwed hand-wheel 33, the sleeve 2 then moving upwardly against a spring 8. For tool-changing, the base 28 can be lowered and swung aside about a shaft 30. The various springs may be replaced by hydraulic means, the turntable 3 may be provided with rotary holding means and the band 20 may be replaced by resiliently-supported, hinged segments.
