Abstract

Polymers containing carbon black evenly dispersed throughout are obtained by polymerizing an olefin in presence of a catalyst comprising carbon black which has been treated in a liquid medium with (1) a reducing metal or metal compound and (2) a reducible compound (excluding oxides) of the transition metals of Periodic Group IV, V, VI and VIII. The examples describe the preparation of polyethylene using such a catalyst prepared from Et2AlCl and TiCl4. Other suitable monomers are e.g., propylene, butylene, styrene and butadiene. The polymerization process of Specification 838,368 is disclaimed. Specification 799,392 also is referred to.
