910,099. Sewing - machines. FAIRWEATHER, H. G. C. (Singer Manufacturing Co.). May 27, 1961, No. 19207/61. Class 112. [Also in Group XXXIV] A feed-off-the-arm sewing-machine having a horizontal " U "- shaped bed 6 comprises parallel arms 7 and 9 interconnected at one end by arm 8. A standard 5 vertically mounted on the free end of arm 7 carries a bracket arm 1, with head 2, which extends over the free end of work arm 9 which is then directly beneath the head 2. The bracket arm 1 carries a main shaft 3, journalled longitudinally thereof and extends through the wall of said bracket opposite the head 2, to carry a pulley 4 for driving the machine. A bed shaft 10, parallel to the main shaft 3, is journalled longitudinally of the arm 8 and extends through the arm end to carry a pulley 12 which is driven by belt 11 from the pulley 4, the belt and pulleys being enclosed by a belt cover 14. The rotary motion transmitted to the bed shaft 10 provides the means of actuating looper and feeding mechanisms via a number of rotary actuating elements on the bed shaft.
