Abstract

910,044. Concrete &c. mixers. EIRICH, W., and EIRICH, G. Sept. 15, 1960 [Sept. 15, 1959], No. 31827/60. Class 86. A rotary pen-type mixer has a container 1 supported on a ball-bearing 4 and rotated about a vertical axis by a reactor 5 and gearing 6. Mixing blades 18, 22 are mounted on bars 14 which rotate about an axis 12 parallel to the pan axis. The blades 18 are close to the pan bottom and 20 to 40 degrees displaced from blades 22 which are carried above the blades 18, as shown, the direction of rotation may be such that the blades 22 may work in the furrow of the blades 18. The blades 22 are mounted rigidly but adjustably and replaceably on the arms 14 and the blades 18 resiliently as by torsion springs 17. There may be one or a plurality of such rotating blade systems each having two or more blades. There may also be cage-like high-speed stirrers as at 25 revolving in either direction about vertical shafts 26 and comprising eight bars 29 of triangular cross-section depending vertically from the rim 28. In a modification, there may be four wound bars the free lower ends of which are curved forwardly or backwardly in relation to the direction of rotation (see Figs. 5 and 6, not shown). Alternatively, each high-speed stirrer may be of skeleton helical form, or a solid helix, or two coaxial helices of opposite hand (see Figs. 7, 8 and 9, not shown) ; the upper turns of the helix may be of decreased pitch. Each stirrer or blade system may be independently driven as by motors 8, 9.
