Abstract

919,847. Mouthpiece cigarette-making machines. AMERICAN MACHINE & FOUNDRY CO. June 10, 1959 [June 26, 1958], No. 19941/59. Class 130. A suction drum 24 for applying uniting bands to cigarette and mouthpiece assemblies 32, Fig. 2, is heated to maintain the adhesive tacky by electrical heating elements 56, 58, mounted on and rotatable with the drum. The suction drum comprises a stationary core 36 containing a suction chamber 52 and a rotating sleeve 24 provided with suction perforations 50 cooperating with chamber 52 to hold the uniting bands on the drum up to the rolling position. Electric heating elements 56, 58 on the drum are wired in parallel through an adjustable thermostat 74 to brushes 66, 68 fed with current by wires passing through passage 60 and connected to slip rings 66, 68. The uniting band material is supplied with adhesive, which may be a thermoplastic material, at 14 and is cut into strips on the drum 24 by a knife 26. Specification 833,998 is referred to.
