Abstract

919,135. Structural joints. METAL MOULDINGS (PROPRIETARY) Ltd. Oct. 17, 1961 [Oct. 17, 1960], No. 37208/61. Class 20 (2). [Also in Group XXII] A joint for extruded metal sections such as used in the manufacture of door frames is characterized in that a first member 3 of a pair to be joined is of hollow section, a spigot 6 is provided that is a tight fit in the hollow of the first member 3, and the spigot and the second member 4 are secured together by tongue and groove formations 9, 5 that are forced into interengagement to form a cold weld or a force fit. The tongues 9 are provided with notches 11 to accommodate metal flow. In an embodiment the joint is used in the manufacture of an aluminium glazed door frame, Fig. 2. The grooves 5 are utilized to house the glass door panel and the members 3 and 3a are secured to the spigots 6 and 6a by screws 10 in addition to their cold weld or force fit engagement.
