A lighting system comprises accessory boxes 10 connected by conduit or trunking 11 and supporting fluorescent tubular lamps 15, the boxes having facilities for connecting other electrical devices, e.g. filament lamps 17, in the system. The boxes house ancillary equipment 18, the conduit may be pre-wired and fitted with contacts, and two or more tubular lamps may be arranged side-by-side between the boxes.
