Abstract
918,577. Pliers. AMP Inc. Oct. 31, 1961, No. 38853/61. Class 61. A tool for crimping connectors to electrical conductors, cutting cables &c. comprises a body 11 carrying a handle 12, a stationary work-engaging member 14 and a work-engaging member 20 movable towards the member 14 under the action of a toggle linkage 24, 34, an extension of the arm 34 engaging a surface 30 on the pivoted handle 28 so that movement of the handle 28 straightens the toggle and forces the work-engaging members together, the point of engagement between the extension and the surface 30 moving towards the handle pivot 26. As shown, the die holder 18 of a crimping tool is slidable in an aperture in the head 10 of the body 11, the end of the dieholder remote from the die 20 being connected to the toggle arm 24 by a pivot 22. The toggle link 34 is pivoted to the handle at 32, the other end of the link having mounted thereon a roller 40 which engages the curved cam surface 30 on the handle 28. A ratchet mechanism R mounted between the handles ensures that a complete closing stroke is made before the handles can be opened. A spring 42 urges the handles into open position.
