Abstract

916,971. Thermionic valves. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. March 2, 1960 [March 13, 1959], No. 8856/59. Class 39 (1). In a thermionic valve comprising electrodes having ends fitting into apertures in upper and lower insulating cross-plates 2, a metallic shield 8 is mounted on the top face of the upper insulating plate and extends over the ends of the electrodes so as to screen the upper end of the valve envelope, in which is mounted a top anode connection, from electrons passing through apertures in the insulating plate, and thereby avoid spurious signals in the anode circuit. The shield 8 is also provided with tabs 13 extending downwardly through plate 2 to minimize the escape of electrons from the underside of the plate 2. The shield 8 may be located by lugs 9-11 extending through the plate 2 from the beamforming electrode of a tetrode, Fig. 1 (not shown), and the tabs 13 preferably engage this electrode.
