Abstract

Preparations of dispersed or solubilised reduced sulphurised vat dyestuffs are obtained by reducing a sulphurised vat dyestuff in a substantially neutral medium of pH not below 7 with the sodium salt of hydroxyethane sulphinic acid (sodium acetaldehyde sulphoxylate) and without the addition of caustic alkali during the reduction. At the preferred pH of 7-8 reduction may be effected at room temperature or at 30-40 DEG C. After reduction has taken place caustic soda may be added. An example is given. The preparations, in their paste form or after drying to a powder, are employed for known methods of dyeing. Specification 829,177 is referred to.
