Abstract

916,398. Mattress tufts. SLUMBERLAND GROUP Ltd. Nov. 8, 1961 [Nov. 8, 1960], No. 38259/60. Class 52 (4). A mattress tuft comprises in combination a member, adapted to be passed through the mattress padding 13 from the cover side 10, consisting of a head 15, a reduced shank 14 and a tapered nose 16, the inner end of which has a diameter greater than the shank to provide a shoulder 17, and a washer 18 having an opening through which the tapered nose 16 may be forced, thereby to be locked behind the shoulder 17. The tuft and washer may be of metal or plastic, the tuft having a central bore 26 so that it may act as a ventilator. The padding assembly includes intermeshing wires 11 and cords 12, the washer being located between adjacent wires 11 and having grooves 19 adapted to engage the cords 12. Other washers are described which may include anchoring means and yieldable tongues around the opening therein.
