915,330. Rotary filters. PICKARD, J. A. May 8, 1961 [May 12, 1960], No. 16769/60. Class 46. A rotary drum filter 5 is furnished with at least one device comprising end plate 13 with a liquid inlet 16 and outlet 17 and an intermediate plate 14, the latter being disposed outside of, and generally parallel to the axis of, the filter drum 3 to define, with the filter cake 9 on the drum, a trough, Fig. 4, elevated or positionable above the level of the unfiltered liquid 7. The end plates 13 ride on a smooth band 6 at each end of the drum. A flexible serrated curtain 15 bridges a gap between the plate 14 and the filter cake and is in sliding contact with the end plates. Instead of the curtain 15, a resiliently mounted skirt, or resilient mounting of the plate 14 itself, may be employed. A scraper 8 is incorporated. Unfiltered liquid is fed to the trough 10 by a pump and in this embodiment wash water, which may be charged with kieselguhr, is fed from a tank to the troughs 11 and 12 by a further pump. A vacuum connection (not shown) is provided for lowering the air pressure within the drum 3, which is divided into sectors co-operating with a central slide distribution valve for the application of vacuum.
