Abstract

915,017. Making cables. TELEFONAKTIEBOLAGET L. M. ERICSSON. Feb. 23, 1961 [Feb. 23, 1960], No. 6766/61. Class 36. A process for producing a plastics insulated stranded copper conductor comprises the continuous sequence of stranding the wires, softannealing the stranded conductor by induced eddy currents and then extruding the plastics insulating covering around the conductor. The stranded conductor 1 is passed through a hotwatcr bath 4 and through a conical H.F. coil 6 where it is annealed in an atmosphere of steam 11. It is then quenched in a water bath 12, wiped dry at 18, passed through jets of air 19, and a vacuum chamber 21 and finally passed around a draw-off drum 24 with a large cooling surface before passing to the extrusion apparatus. Cold water is fed continuously to the cooling tank 12 and the resulting heated water is pumped back to feed the pre-heating bath 4.
