A mill comprises a centrifugal wheel 8 for throwing material to be comminuted against the walls 5, 5<SP>1</SP> of a housing which is in two parts 3, 11 separated by an adjustable discharge slot 12, one or both parts 3, 11 being either stationary or rotatable and a plurality of guide-plates 14, 15 being so disposed as to guide material alternately between the wall 5<SP>1</SP> and a deflector ring 13 and between the wall 5 and a deflector ring 13<SP>1</SP>, the rings 13, 13<SP>1</SP> being provided at the periphery of the wheel 8. The wheel 8 has beater blades 9 and each guide-plate extends from one blade 9 to the next and together with the blades and deflector rings forms a closed chamber 16 or 17.
