Abstract

914,237. Endless conveyers. BALJAK CORPORATION. April 5, 1961, No. 12151/61. Class 78 (1). [Also in Group XVII] A rectangular article is pivoted about a vertical axis by engaging the article on one side with a projection on a first endless conveyer, and by engaging the article on the opposite side with a projection on a second conveyer which is driven at a slower rate than the first conveyer. As shown in Fig. 1, lug 28 carried by a first conveyer 27 engages the trailing wall of a box B 1 which is supported on rails 24-26 and guided by rails 17, 18. In Fig. 2, a lug 31 engages the box at 33 about which point the box pivots as the lug 28 passes the slower moving lug 31. As the box is moved to the region where the rails 17, 18 narrow again, the lug 31 assumes the function of propelling the box and the lug 28 has only slight frictional engagement with the wall 22 of the box. The endless chain conveyer 35, 36 of a closing machine 34 propels the boxes into engagement with a closing roller 39. To permit the apparatus to handle boxes of different sizes, the spacing between longitudinal side members 55, 56 may be adjusted, Fig. 7 (not shown). The curvature of the rails 17, 18 is adjustable by movement of slotted brackets 73 after loosening bolts 71. In a modification. Fig. 8, the two conveyers 127, 130 which pivot the boxes B are disposed in vertical planes, and lateral guides 118 are adjustable to fit the size of the boxes.
