Abstract
A fishing line includes a cylindrical core of braided silk or nylon, an adhesive priming coating such as a soluble synthetic rubber of the acrylonitrile-butadiene copolymer dissolved in methyl ethyl ketone or methyl isobutyl ketone and a tapered plastisol coating of polyvinyl chloride having embedded therein hollow microspheroids or microballoons which cause the line to float. The polyvinyl chloride is dispersed in a plasticizer such as dioctyl adipate, -sebacate, -phthalate or trioctyl phosphate. The microspheroids may be made of ureaformaldehyde or consist of phenolic microballoons or glass microballoons. The microballoons may be filled with air, helium or nitrogen. The line is made by passing the coated braided silk or nylon core through a tank containing the plastisol mixture including the microballoons. The line is then passed in contact with a sizing blade or through a variable orifice to provide a tape. The line is then passed through a heated zone to cure the plastisol. U.S.A.
