Reverse flow .cleaning of a plurality of inward flow air filter bags 7, Fig. 1, housing their mouths supported by an apertured transverse partition 4 within a casing 1 housing a dustladen air inlet 2 and a filtered air outlet 3 is effected by momentary bursts of compressed air from a line 22 issuing through nozzles 21 projecting into the bag mouths and serving to induce a back flow of filtered air through the bags 7. Each bag is rectangular in crosssection and the mouth which is turned over an endless rubber ring 15, Fig. 8, is clamped between the end plates 4a and side plates 4b of the partition 4 and flanges 10a, 11a of a metal header 9 by bolts passing through holes 13, 18 and a distance piece 12. In a modification each header includes a venturi-orifice 25, Fig. 2 (not shown), into the throat of which the compressed air nozzle projects. In a further modification a series of filter]bags 29, Fig. 11, is made from a single length of material folded zig-zag fashion and joined at appropriate edges and all the headers 30, combined with the bags 29 and into which the nozzles 21 extend downwardly from compressed air lines 22, are rigidly connected at 31 and are thereby removable en bloc.
