Abstract

903,608. Ladders. KING, J. H. L. June 7, 1961 [June 11, 1960], No. 20628/60. Class 20 (2). An extendable ladder comprises relatively slidable sections 10, 11, each having a plate 20 at the top and bottom, respectively, each plate having a grooved extension 22 engaging a laterally-extending longitudinal flange 21 on the other section. The section 11 is slidable on slides 25 mounted on pivots 27 on brackets 12 fixed at the edge of a loft trap door and is also slidable on a pair of slides 37 mounted on a spring 34 fixed to the trap door. Each side member of the sections comprises two parallel members 15, 16 connected by the steps 17 and between which the slides 25, 37 slide. A stopplate 23 stops the ladder with the end three steps of each section in register. The descent of the ladder is controlled by springs 28 on the pivots 27 having their ends connected to the brackets 12 and slides 25 respectively, and by pairs of links 39, the links of each pair having one end sliding in a slot 40 in the bracket 12 and the other end of one being connected to the section 10 and of the other to the slide 25.
