Abstract
903,316. Control of D.C. motors. MASCHINENFABRIK OERLIKON. June 13, 1960 [June 24, 1959], No. 20737/60. Class 38 (3). [Also in Group XXXV] In a Ward-Leonard system the field winding 10 of generator 3 is supplied through rectifiers 8, the firing angle of which is determined by a phase control circuit responsive to deviations of the motor speed from a reference value. The field winding 10 is also supplied from a singlephase transformer 13 through diodes 14, choke 15, and resistor 16, the current from this auxiliary source being in opposition to that from the controlled rectifiers. This enables the zero point of the exciting current to correspond with a firing delay angle of 90 degrees and extends the speed control range of the motor. In another arrangement, the transformer 13 is replaced by a three-phase transformer, Fig. 4 (not shown). The rectifiers 8 may also be controlled to afford limitation of the armature current of the Ward-Leonard motor.
